Loneliness

The RV lifestyle is, by nature, fairly communal. People meet other campers easily and conversations are struck up around campfires or when you are out taking a walk.

Just like in a regular neighborhood…people move in and move out except it happens daily and everyone knows that it is inevitable that things change quickly.

A few days ago we heard about a tragedy that happened at our campground. A young boy of 14 decided to deal with his loneliness by taking his own life. He was part of a family from England who is working and traveling the States in a RV. The young man complained he had no friends. We did not meet the family involved and did not hear any other details. Many in the campground contributed funds to help with the expenses they were facing.

It was a harsh reminder that loneliness can affect anyone at anytime…and made me appreciate those I call friends even more.
