Back To School

The phrase “Back To School” can refer to:

– Back to school (marketing), the shopping period immediately before the start of the school year
– Back to School (film), a 1986 film starring Rodney Dangerfield
– Back to School (Mini Maggit), a 2001 song from The Deftones

We are camped about 30 minutes north of South Bend, Indiana. This lovely city is home to one of the country’s most prestigious catholic universities….Notre Dame. The school’s name is a French term for “Our Lady” which is a reference to the Virgin Mary. The university is organized into five colleges and one professional school.

We walked around campus and enjoyed watching students scurrying between classes. We also saw stadium workers preparing for the first home football game with Purdue. I walked through an open gate and found someone to ask permission to see the football field – he escorted us through the hallway to the inside of the stadium. As we left I told him I was a Michigan fan!!!! He did not have a smile on his face but he was gracious.

The campus has a lot of sculptures and ornate structures, but my favorite was the huge mosaic on the side of the Hesburgh Library entitled “The Word of Life”….but is better known as “Touchdown Jesus”.

Notre Dame has one of the most elite football programs in college history. They are 2nd only to University of MICHIGAN
