The RV campground we have now setup house in is “Island Retreat RV Park”. It is about 2 miles to the main street in town that leads to the beaches in Gulf Shores. The road the park is on runs next to the “Little Lagoon” which is a shallow body of water separated from the ocean by a half mile of beach called West Beach. The lagoon is 10 miles long and is a mixture of fresh and salt water.
The sites in the park are good sized, the people are friendly and most are from northern states. There are a lot of activities available, if you want to participate. Every morning there is an exercise or yoga class and Zumba classes a couple of afternoons. We can learn line dancing or hang out with groups from each state – Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan…you name it. Our neighbors in the back told us that some folks play euchre and Texas hold-em a couple nights a week.
There is a paved bike/walking path that runs in front of the park that goes for over 6 miles. It is easy to walk or bike every day enjoying the wooded walk-way, the flowers that are starting to bud and bloom, and the view of the lagoon. This park is just the right balance of nice people, great prices, ocean access and lots of retail shopping. We have placed a deposit to save this site for us again next winter.
I think we might just give Zumba a try.
