Orange Beach Festival of Art

This weekend is the kick-off of the spring break season. The community knows there are a lot of students as well as families visiting the area, therefore there are dozens of venues vying for attention. The weather is cooperating and it looks like the next 10 days will be around 70 degrees and sunny….except for Monday.

One of the more quality events is the Orange Beach Festival of Art. This is not a typical festival with flea market booths and carnival food. Instead it appeared to be a “juried” Art show where the artists have to pass a review before they are allowed to setup their displays. There were also a variety of demonstrations going on that included glass blowing, ceramics and iron working. There was a performing arts stage with different local artists or school-based performing groups every hour or two.

Food was provided by local eateries at very reasonable prices – no elephant ears or deep-fried Twinkies – just crab cakes, gumbo, chicken, jambalaya, etc. The setting for the festival grounds was at the Orange Beach Art Center along the shores of Wolf Bay which is part of the waterway creating the island where Orange Beach and Gulf Shores are located.

It is obviously a great kick-off for the Spring Break season.
