CHANGES! CHANGES! CHANGES! to our “living the dream” plan.
MAY 2013
We spent the month of May in the Indianapolis area after spending most of the winter in the warmth of Gulf Shores, Alabama. We attended many grandchild soccer and baseball games, saw friends from Upland and visited doctors and dentist for our annual scheduled appointments.
Art’s doctors have been monitoring his blood tests the last couple of years for slowly decreasing kidney function. After losing weight and keeping blood glucose and pressure under control he expected a good report. New blood test results surprised us all – his kidney function had dropped dramatically since December 2012. He is now in the range to apply for a kidney transplant and possibly start dialysis.
We attended a chronic kidney disease class and submitted all the necessary paperwork to be evaluated for a kidney transplant. Art is feeling fatigued most of the time but does not have many of the other typical symptoms of kidney failure.
SOOOO – decisions – decisions – decisions needed to be made. With the information we knew at this point we prayerfully decided to sell the RV and truck and purchase a house in the Indianapolis area. Our three sons live there and the IU Health Transplant is there. No brainer!
JUNE 2013
What a month we have had! We moved our RV to Anderson, IN on June 3. The RV and truck are listed on Craigslist in Indianapolis, Louisville, Cincinnati, Detroit, Chicago and Fort Wayne. We also paid to list it on rvregistry.com – a national listing that does mailings, ads in national publications and web listings. We currently are talking to a serious looker at the truck.
Art had another appointment at the kidney doctor – he is holding steady right now – no additional drop in kidney function. He is still tired – some days are worse than others. He has been approved for evaluation to be placed on the kidney transplant list at IU Health. The first tests begin on July 2.
We had dinner with our youngest son and daughter-in-law for Father’s Day and Art was given the gift of a lifetime – a kidney! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! They both have the same blood type. Inquiries are being made as to the next steps. Hopefully all the necessary testing for both can be done in a timely manner and dialysis will not be necessary.
We found a house we love – closing at the end of August. The owner needed the extra time and will give us time to sell the RV and truck.
We see God’s hand in all these circumstances – his timing – and we are extremely grateful.
We are not discouraged. We are trusting in God’s plan and timing for all these changes.
